“BELLS“ WILL TOLL AT THE LITHUANIAN NATIONAL PHILHARMONIC ON THE WEEKEND

2015 03 08

Impressive program, featuring pieces from the first half of the 20th century, which reveals the panorama of the historical fractures and changes in the music of that period will be presented in Vilnius, at the Lithuanian National Philharmonic, on the 21st of March. The Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra (LNSO) will be conducted by French Maestro Olivier Grangean, already familiar to our audience.

At the symphonic music concert "Symphonic Fiereworks" LNSO together with Kaunas State Choir and soloists: Julija Stupnianek (soprano), Tomas Pavilionis (tenor) and Stein Skjervold (baritone) will perform a monumental poem by Rachmaninov (1873–1943) "Bells", written in 1913 (words by Edgar Allan Poe translated into Russian by Konstantin Balmont). Talking to his biographer Oskar Rizeman about "Bells" composer admitted: "I wrote this piece with passion and drive and I cherish it the most." Rachmaninov always stressed that sacral meaning of this piece is of utmost importance to him.
